My name is Jessica Roth and I live in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. I’m 14 years old and I visit the High school. After the High School I want to study Business Administration. When I don't have school I enjoy the nature and spend a lot of time with fashion. Twice a week I have soccer training.

photo

How did you become interested in fashion?
I had an early interest in fashion. I read each week the "Bravo" and looked curiously into the shops for new clothes. I always admired the older girls in our school how great she looked and how stylish they were dressed. But when and how I'm really interested in fashion I do not remember.

photo

What are your dreams and aspirations?
My dream is to lead a good life and of course to have success. It would be great to become a model and to work for the famous brands. I wish, I could tell when I'm lying on my deathbed, I had a fulfilling life.

photo

How would you describe your style? What’s your favorite look at this moment?
I think my style is elegant but still young and fresh. I like to experiment and somewhat risky to leave the house.

photo

Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
I get my inspiration for fashion especially in the internet. I really like the site: www.tumblr.com , because I can spend long hours on this page - simply inspiring!

photo

Where do you shop? What are your favorite brands?
I usually buy my clothes by H & M but I also like Zara and Mango. I haven’t any favourite brands.

Fashionista from Vancouver :: A Fashion Love Affair

A Fashion Love Affair is one of our contest winners at Mode Republic! Let’s learn more about her.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a fashion blogger from Vancouver Canada, and I work full-time for a marketing company.

photo

How did you become interested in fashion?
I have always been interested in fashion, but over the past few years it has really taken a turn as I became more comfortable and confident in my own body. I started really enjoying fashion when I found fashion blogs like Chic Heroin, Sincerly Jules and Fashiontoast, and now I love having fun with fashion and creating and sharing my outfits through my blog.

photo

What inspired you to start your own blog?
I began my own blog after being a long-time follower of Chic Heroin and Cupcakes and Cashmere...I loved putting together outfits and starting my blog allowed me the ability to share my passion with others, and has inspired me to push my own fashion limits and live on the edge, which has been a blast!

photo

What are your dreams and aspirations?
So much has come from my blog in the short 6 months since I started it...I have met so many fabulous people, both online and in person, and I have already been able to work with great companies inlcuding Lulu*s.com and Threadcase, I hope to continue on this path-it has been such an amazing experience so far!

photo

How would you describe your style?
My style changes daily...so it is hard to describe! I definitely like to dress depending on what I am feeling that day, and the most important thing is that my outfit is comfortable...I hate having to constantly be pulling down my skirt or adjusting my top! If you check out my blog you will find that I can wear anything from a vintage gown to cut-offs and a t-shirt to a feminine skirt and heels...with me, anything goes!

photo

What’s your favorite look at this moment?
My favorite look at the moment is maxi's! During the summer a maxi is a perfect choice because they can easily go from beach to dinner with the addition of a few accessories or a pair of heels. For colors I am drawn to peaches, blushes and creams this summer.

photo

Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
I find fashion inspirations everywhere...my favorite thing to do is sit downtown and people watch-the most interesting outfits are often on the streets! I also get inspiration from my fellow fashion bloggers, some of my favorites being Chicmuse, 5 Inches and Up, Late Afternoon, Sincerely Jules, Song of Style, Atlantic-Pacific, Purse and Boots and Chic Heroin.

photo

Where do you shop? What are your favorite brands?
I shop both in shops and online...some of my favorites are Zara, Lulus.com, H&M, Shopbop and SoleStruck. Some favorite brands at the moment are Winter Kate, Elizabeth and James, Ash and Jeffrey Campbell.

A Moroccan Israeli Fashionista :: Shana Emily

Shana Emily is one of our trendsetters at Mode Republic! Let’s learn more about her.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi everyone! My name is Shana Emily Kilbourn formerly Dahan. I am a Moroccan Israeli girl, born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. Growing up I was a dancer of classical ballet, jazz and hip hop. I have been married for 5 years to the love of my life.

photo

I studied theatre, dance, music (played the Viola), public relations and psychology in school… unfoooooortunately the dance, theater and music did not qualify as a degree, so I graduated with a degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in psychology.

Currently, I’m a Show Girl at Jubilee on the Las Vegas Strip. Currently, I’m an employee benefits broker for one of the largest insurance brokerages in Nevada, Orgill/Singer & Associates. I help businesses implement employee benefits, educate their employees and act as an advocate on their behalf.

photo

How did you become interested in fashion?
I remember playing in my mother and grandmother’s closet as a child trying on hats and jewelry from all over the world. My father was a photographer and my sister and I used to model for him wearing some of our favorite thrifted finds and handmade dresses.

Nana, my grandmother, was a beautiful eccentric woman working as a seamstress in Morocco. My mother was a registered nurse in Israel and worked in a button factory as a child.

When moving to America, my family had very little, and fabric stores and thrift stores like the Salvation Army became our favorite places to go. With almost all of our clothes handmade, I quickly learned what fabrics I liked. My mom was fearless and so confident. She loved bright bold colors and was so inspiring in so many ways. She had a unique style and expressed herself through fashion.

photo

What inspired you to start your own blog?
My mom passed away almost four years ago and I found myself in a very quiet place. I wasn’t inspired. I was having a hard time sleeping and I found myself on the internet one night…I am not sure how I came across my first blog but I found myself crying in front of the computer…reading blog after blog.. I immediately logged on to Blogger the next day, created my profile, and began writing. I couldn’t stop writing, and then I started posting pictures of my family and of my mom. I was a maniac; I could not wait to see what everyone was wearing, how they were doing, and where they were from…. I would run home and rummage through my closet, inevitably finding items that inspired me. I would look through some of my mother’s bags, and clothes and then I began to blog about them. One of my best friends Edwina aka “Photographer Extraordinaire” began taking pictures of me to post every day. Everyone was so complementary and supportive…and that is how Colorblind was born. I had been “colorblind” for several years, not in the literal sense, but I found myself wearing only blacks, greys, and browns. I hadn’t noticed it until I began blogging about fashion; it’s amazing how what you wear can reflect how you feel.

photo

What are your dreams and aspirations?
Ughhh this is such a hard question… I have so many dreams and aspirations…I feel like at 31 years old…yeah…I’m old…I am finally living some of my dreams!

I always dreamt of falling in love and having a family, while labs and cats aren’t children they are certainly our babies for now. I would love to write for a style magazine and share ideas and inspirations on a budget… or host my own show interviewing different boutiques and designers in town, sharing with everyone the new hot spots and trends. I want to be a movie star playing opposite Ryan Gosling (hubby doesn’t know about that one). I am an avid thrifter and sale finder and I dream of owning my own boutique where I can share my finds with the world. I want to hold Thrifters Anonymous meetings every week where other addicts can share their finds and swap with other fashionistas… …oh I could go on and on…

Thank you Mode Republic for making one of my dreams come true…sharing with everyone my addiction to thrifting and eclectic style!

photo

How would you describe your style? What’s your favorite look at this moment?
I used to think I had a specific style until I started blogging. I definitely tend to gravitate towards richer fabrics, lace, silk, velvet and vintage items. I love anything edgy, classic, and often times awkward and unique. I am in love with old things “Oskie Woskies” buttons, sequins, pleats, and bows. Shapes intrigue me and sizes are only a means of inspiration.

My favorite looks at the moment include a lot of pattern mixture, but one of my favorites comes in a long dress preferably below the knee. Whether it is stripes or bold colors I am drawn to the lines and the details. This blue dress I found at Savers for only $4.99 is one of my favorites!

photo

Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
My mom’s favorite items give me inspiration as I make them my own. Like most, I am always looking through magazines but my love for thrift stores is what really gives me inspiration. With so many styles, colors, fabrics, and patterns, it is so easy to get inspired when you are hunting through the racks of clothes. Sometimes I get inspired by accident and sometimes I inspire myself…who would have thought!!!

photo

Where do you shop? What are your favorite brands?
Well, I would say I spend most of my time shopping at thrift stores or discount stores. Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and most recently Dinosaurs and Roses here in Vegas are my favorite. I love Marshalls and will often times leave with 3 or 4 pairs of shoes, H&M has great sales and cute jewelry as does F21. As far as brands go, vintage pieces are my favorite but I LOVE BCBG, Anthropologie, Betsy Johnson, Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Jessica Simpson , Banana Republic, JCrew, ModCloth, and most recently Ruche online. Can’t wait to style some of the items I just recently won! I will be posting them to Mode Republic..I love you guys!

Fashionista from Manila :: It’s Nikki

Nikki is one of our trendsetters at Mode Republic! Let’s learn more about her.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm Nikki, a 22 year old fashion blogger from Manila, Philippines and the one who runs behind: http://itsnikki-goes-trendy-chic.blogspot.com/. I was born and raised in Puerto Princesa City Palawan, Philippines and then transferred here in the city about 4 years ago. Aside from being a responsible fashion blogger I am also currently finishing my degree on Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I am on my 4th and last year as a college student. As of now I am currently unemployed, well since school has been taking most of my time and energy; but I am currently planning to start my own online store.

photo

How did you become interested in fashion?
Ever since, I like to play dress up before actually going to bed (pathetic I know! lol). If I am not yet sleepy, I would take my clothes out of my closet, whether it is old or new and I would try to mix and match them in front of my mirror. I don't wear most of my clothes out in public coz I’m not yet that confident before that's why I tried on experimenting on wearing them indoors. Just trying to picture out how it looks on me.

photo

What inspired you to start your own blog?
It started actually for my love for photography. I like to wear my clothes and do a "mini photo shoot" every weekends or whenever my time permits. Then this love evolved into something more than just photography, that's where fashion took its place. I thought on posting them online and see how it ends up. Then voila! My online fashion playground started.

photo

What are your dreams and aspirations?
My dream is to inspire young and upcoming fashionistas around the world. What a dream right? But it's true. Inspiring other people is the most rewarding thing a person can do. You become a role model for others. Whether it is in the name of fashion, humanitarian cause, and other categories. I also dream of becoming a professional makeup artists and stylist someday. Now I don't know how am I ever going to achieve all of these before I turn 30. lol!

photo

How would you describe your style? What’s your favorite look at this moment?
I admit that I am suffering from a fashion identity crisis at the moment. I cannot say what kind of look I specifically wear or prefer. For me, as long as I am comfortable then that would be it.

photo

Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
I usually get my inspirations from fashion magazine spreads or style icons that I look up to whether it is a co-fashion blogger online or a fashion icon.

photo

Where do you shop? What are your favorite brands?
I shop everywhere and anywhere. As long as it is sold for a good price. Usually, I go to thrift stores or department stores for easy access on clothes or if i have a limited and tight budget. Forever21, H&M, ZARA and Topshop are also a favorite of mine.
